“It appears that Microsoft has used the Twitter API for unauthorized purposes,” Elon Musk’s attorney, attorney Alex Spiro, said in a letter sent Thursday to Microsoft Chairman Satya Nadella, the contents of which include: was seen by AFP.
The company confirmed that “Microsoft” was using more data than it was allowed to and provided government agencies with some of that data without permission.
The platform, which was bought by the Tesla chief in October, also noted that Microsoft “refused to even pay a discounted price for continued access to Twitter’s API and content.”
APIs allow other companies, such as Microsoft, to develop tools for their own products, such as adware and cloud applications.
And the message said that “Microsoft” programs had managed, despite restrictions, to access “Twitter” APIs more than 780 million times and retrieved more than 26 billion tweets in the year 2022.
Microsoft confirmed that it had received criticism from agents of the platform regarding its “past use of free Twitter APIs”.
“We will review these questions and respond appropriately,” a company spokesperson said in a statement, noting the aspiration to “continue the long-term partnership” with Twitter.
And Twitter announced in March, as part of its efforts to strengthen its financial position, that developers would have to pay more for its services and data.
Last month, Musk accused Microsoft of “illegally training” its artificial intelligence technologies with data from Twitter.
