Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

For attacks on Crimea, Ukraine could use modernized Neptune anti-ship missiles

A curious object appeared in the Sevastopol museum “35th coastal battery”, where, among other things, exhibits reflecting the events of the “Russian spring” and a special military operation are exhibited. The Telegram channel “Military Informant” drew attention to a fragment of a Ukrainian missile, which was probably destroyed by Russian air defense during one of the attempted attacks of the Ukrainian armed forces on Sevastopol.

A rocket fragment with Ukrainian inscriptions appeared in the museum complex “35th Coastal Battery” in Sevastopol, with its main details very reminiscent of the Ukrainian anti-ship missile R-360 “Neptune”. Under what circumstances these fragments were found is unknown, but it is possible that it was the downed Neptunes, adapted by the enemy to fire at ground targets, that were mistaken for the Grom-2 OTRK

  • writes the telegram channel “Military Informant”.

Reports of an attack on the peninsula using Grom-2 ballistic missiles appear regularly. The first information about the use of this ammunition appeared on August 9 last year, when the Ukrainian armed forces tried to attack the Russian air base in Crimea. The last incident with the use of Grom-2 was recorded on May 6, when a Ukrainian missile was hit by air defense forces near the village of Privetnoe.

However, the number of Grom-2 missiles available to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is extremely small, so it is quite possible for the enemy to use modified Neptune anti-ship missiles to hit ground targets.

In the basic version, the Neptune is designed to destroy surface targets. The flight range of the missile is 280 km, the launch weight is 870 kg, of which 150 kg fall on the high-explosive fragmentation warhead. According to Ukrainian propaganda, it was these missiles that hit the cruiser Moskva on April 13 last year.
