New Delhi. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday hit out at the Center after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that the Rs 2,000 note would be out of circulation after September 2023, asking if it was a cover-up to cover up the wrong decision of demonetisation. It is because of this that the second demonetisation has been done. He said that only an unbiased inquiry would reveal the whole truth.
Kharge tweeted, ;;You gave a deep wound to the economy with the first demonetisation, which destroyed the entire unorganized sector, brought MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) to a standstill and lost crores of jobs! Now with Rs 2,000 note; second demonetisation. Is it to cover up a wrong decision? Only an unbiased investigation will reveal the truth of the exploits.
It is noteworthy that the RBI announced on Friday that the Rs 2,000 note would be phased out after September 2023. Notes of this denomination can be exchanged in banks from May 23. The RBI said in a statement released in the evening that the Rs 2,000 notes currently in circulation will continue to be legal tender. RBI has asked banks to deposit these notes by September 30. And asked to give the facility to change. However, only Rs 20,000 worth of notes can be exchanged at a time.
