Sikkim: Indian Army rescues 500 tourists stranded in landslide-hit Sikkim.

Gangtok. The Indian Army rescued 500 tourists, including 54 children, who were stranded in Sikkim following landslides and road blockades at some places due to torrential rains. A defense official gave this information on Saturday.

Heavy rains lashed Lachen, Lachung and Chungthang on Friday and around 500 tourists traveling to Lachung and Lachen valley got stuck in Chungthang due to landslides and blockage of roads, the official said. “The SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) ) On the request of Chungthang, Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps personnel launched a rescue operation and rescued the stranded tourists.

“The stranded tourists included 216 men, 113 women and 54 children and have been taken to three different army camps,” he said. They have been provided with hot food and warm clothes. According to the official, the soldiers vacated their barracks for the tourists to stay and rest for the night. He informed that three medical teams have been formed to check the health condition of all the passengers.
