Seat Belt Clip Sale Ban: Not wearing a seat belt while traveling by car is one of the leading causes of road accident deaths in India.
According to a government report, this figure of deaths in 2021 was more than 16,000. Still most of the drivers and passengers still avoid using it. Despite this, companies are also providing alarm facility for not wearing seat belts in their vehicles.
Not having to use a seat belt when traveling by a car makes it even more risky, people use seat belt clips and seat belt alarm stoppers to silence the seat belt alarm. Which are being sold by many online e-commerce companies in large numbers.
As per the recently issued order by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), five leading e-commerce platforms in India have been asked to stop selling seat belt alarm stopper clips. Due to which the life and safety of the customers who buy them are in danger. Moreover, selling fake seat belt clips is in direct violation of the Consumer Protection Act 2019. This order has been issued in view of the tremendous sales of this device on the e-commerce website.
Consequently, all the five e-commerce platforms have submitted their reports in compliance with the CCPA order. Additionally, 13,118 counterfeit seatbelt or seatbelt alarm stoppers listed on these platforms have been removed. Use of these devices can be life threatening as well as harmful to the customers who are seeking claims from the insurance company. If insurance companies find a fake seat belt clip in the vehicle as evidence. So the insurance company can reject it citing the negligence of the claimant.
