The mayor of Tbilisi, secretary general of the ruling party “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia”, Kakha Kaladze, has called those who protest against the resumption of flights with Russia hypocrites. He said this in a conversation with journalists.
“They are ordinary hypocrites. We remember their statements about the arrival of tourists. What’s wrong with … if people, thanks to direct flights, come to us instead of passing through Yerevan or other countries? Kaladze was quoted by TASS as saying.
The mayor pointed out that there are a lot of Georgians living in Russia, and it is unclear what is wrong with the fact that they will arrive in their home country on direct flights.
The first Moscow-Tbilisi flight since 2019 took off on May 19. A few days earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled the visa regime for Georgian citizens whose trip to Russia does not exceed 90 days.
At Tbilisi airport, a plane from Russia was greeted by demonstrators who tried to force the cordon. Separately, protesters against the resumption of communications also gathered near the Georgian parliament.
