Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a meeting with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, called for security guarantees for the country “before it joins NATO”. This was reported by the press service of the President of Ukraine.
“The head of state stressed the importance of securing security guarantees for Ukraine before our country joins the alliance,” Zelenskyy’s press service said.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that currently Ukraine does not meet many of the necessary criteria to join NATO. “We made a decision in Bucharest that shaped the prospect (of NATO membership) a long time ago,” Scholz said. According to him, it was immediately clear that “this is not going to happen in the foreseeable future”.
