In Russia, work is in full swing to create an elite flight unit “Storm”, the main purpose of which will be attacks on military-industrial facilities in Ukraine. This was reported by sources close to British intelligence.
According to plans, the air group will include a squadron of Su-34 fighter-bombers, a squadron of Su-24 front-line bombers, as well as a squadron of Mi-28 or Ka-52 helicopters (16 aircraft). Each bomber formation will have 12 to 16 aircraft.
However, the Russian media have already written about the creation of “Storm”. As part of this work, it is planned to train several dozen pilots and navigators. The service will attract retired soldiers, as well as those currently serving in a special operation in Ukraine.
The need to form this flight unit is explained by the increase in the number of targets during the implementation of the air defense system, as well as the growth in the production of combat aircraft and ammunition. At the same time, it is important to note that aerial bombs usually cause more damage to the enemy than rockets and artillery. Moreover, the creation of aerial bombs is cheaper for the Russian military-industrial complex than the production of high-precision weapons.
According to expert forecasts, the Storm group could be formed within three to four months.
