According to the Chinese customs service, about 3,000 tons of liquefied natural gas from the United States were imported into the country in March, two dozen times less than a standard large-tonnage shipment.
In January and February this year, a total of 7 shipments of US gas were shipped to Chinese ports.
Last year, in January, March and May, no LNG was supplied to China from the United States. In February, June and July, a tanker carrying liquefied gas arrived in China. In 2019, when the countries were in a situation of mutual trade disputes, only two tankers came to China – in January and March. Until March 2020, there was no LNG from the United States to China.
In total, in March this year, China imported 4.77 million tons of liquefied natural gas, 10% more than the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, in March 2021, 6.73 million tons were imported into China, and in March 2020 – 5.05 million tons,
China’s liquefied natural gas supply from Russia increased by 14% and amounted to 689 million cubic meters, which is equivalent to about 8 batches of LNG. At the same time, on an annual basis, the transport of liquefied natural gas from Russia to China from January to April 2023 increased by 50%, reaching 2.14 million tons.
Earlier, Gazprom expressed the opinion that in the coming years the Russian Federation could become the largest supplier of LNG to China.
