Kuala Lumpur: Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Monday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 for the first time since returning home from a trip to Africa and Asia. The 71-year-old leader said that considering his age, he has been advised to take Paxlovid, an antiviral drug. Lee said on Facebook, that ‘I was found infected with Kovid-19 for the first time this morning.’ Until I get well, I should stay away.
Li was on an official visit to South Africa from May 14 to 16 and Kenya from May 17 to 19. He also attended the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Indonesia from 10 to 11 May. Lee said that he had taken a booster dose of the Kovid-19 vaccine in November last year. He urged Singaporeans to get vaccinated and reduce the risk of serious illness.
According to local media, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung recently said that very few senior citizens are taking doses of Kovid-19 vaccines. He warned that this may weaken the immunity against Kovid-19 and the country may once again come under the grip of the virus.
