In the closing statement of the Hiroshima summit on Sunday, the leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and the European Union European Union affirmed Kiev’s support, no matter how long it takes to establish a comprehensive peace.
However, two military experts, one Russian and the other American, spoke to ‘Sky News Arabia’ about the ‘catastrophic’ results that await Ukraine if it responds to Western countries’ insistence that it launch its counterattack against Russia in light of Russian preparations, refuting the interests that push these countries to prolong the war.
The most significant companies of the leaders of the seven
• US President Joe Biden: We will support Ukraine with F-16 aircraft and provide a new aid package worth $375 million.
• Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: My country will support Ukraine, however long it takes and for as long as it takes.
• German Chancellor Olaf Schultz: Our top priority is to support the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and Russia must withdraw its forces.
• British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak: Ukraine will get the air power it needs.
• French President Emmanuel Macron: We oppose turning the war into a “frozen conflict”, and we support Ukraine’s rejection of any peace proposal without Russia’s withdrawal.
Is Ukraine ready?
As speculation intensifies that a counterattack is imminent, hesitation and anxiety have crept into some statements by officials, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying last week that Kiev is ready , but it takes longer for conditions to become ideal to avoid unacceptable losses.
As for the permanent representative of Ukraine to NATO, Natalia Galibarenko, she confirmed that her country calls on the Western allies not to base great hopes on the counter-attack, and not to consider it as decisive.
In an interview with Lithuanian national television recently, she addressed the allies saying, “We tell our international partners to be patient” and “Don’t push too hard… This attack may be important , but let’s not focus too much. on it,” highlighting the possibility of the need for multiple counterattacks.
Why are the allies pushing?
The British newspaper “The Guardian” replies that:
• The West has invested huge sums of money in the war, and is about to exhaust its military arsenal in favor of Ukraine, and it will face pressure from the streets if this does not translate not by a defeat for Russia.
• There are elections in Western countries, and candidates are chasing questions from voters about how to spend that money.
For his part, the American military expert, Peter Alexei, believes that the promises of the leaders of the seven countries confirm that if Ukraine fails to deliver a fatal blow, the West will not stop supporting it, “the goal is to drain Russia, no matter how long the conflict lasts.”
At the same time, he warns that “Western pressure on Ukraine could spoil the offensive”.
The Greatest Adventures
Russian military expert Sergei Leonkov agrees with Alexei that the target is Russia, saying the G7 leaders’ pledges are “the biggest proof that the West went to war directly against Russia, and not just provided aid to Ukraine”.
But in a confident tone, he described the Ukrainian counterattack, and “Western pressure has intensified”, as it “may constitute suicide for the Ukrainians in light of Russia’s logistical and military fortifications, in especially in areas like Zaporizhia, and it will be one of the greatest Western adventures.”
G7 summit pledges to increase Kiev’s support came a day after Moscow confirmed the fall of the entire eastern Ukrainian town of Bakhmut to the Russian military after battles described as the fiercest and longest in the war since February. 2022.
