Climatologist Alexei Kokorin admitted that if the climate in the country warms up by five degrees, then the capital of Russia can be moved to Siberia.
According to the expert, this could happen by the 2080s.
“It is quite realistic that this will happen, even if not by the 2050-2060s, but, say, by the 2080s,” Kokorin said.
At the same time, he noted that by that time the overall temperature will still rise by 2-2.5 degrees relative to the pre-industrial era, and such a scenario will lead to the fact that heat waves will cover the planet at least two or three times more often. Thus, the heat wave, which in our area happens about once every 10 years, will occur every two or three years.
“You can live, but you have to adapt,” says Kokorin.
Under the worst-case scenario, the air temperature will rise by 4.5 – 5 degrees, and then the next 8 – 10 years will be abnormally hot. It will be most difficult to live in such megacities as Moscow, so it is possible that the capital of Russia will be temporarily transferred to Novosibirsk or Krasnoyarsk.
The climatologist believes that such a scenario is possible, but unlikely, writes “RIA News” .
