On Tuesday May 23, Vladimir Varnavsky, Speaker of the Parliament of the Omsk region, died at the age of 76. The head of the region, Vitaly Khotsenko, announced the death of the speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
“Vladimir Alekseevich Varnavsky, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk region, has passed away,” Khotsenko said in Telegram.
Khotsenko recalled that Varnavsky had held leading positions in Omsk since Soviet times, “for the benefit of the inhabitants of the region”, since 1994 he had headed the regional parliament.
“His deeds will live forever in the hearts of the people of the region. It is a great loss for all of us,” Khotsenko said and expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
For many years of activity as the speaker of the regional parliament and work in the Federation Council, Varanvsky received state awards. Among them are the IV degree and honor of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, as well as the insignia of the Federation Council “For Merit in the Development of Parliamentarism”. While on the Federation Council, he oversaw international relations and became the first parliamentary negotiator at NATO Headquarters.
