Pakistan is taking strict steps to stop drug smuggling

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Narcotics Control Minister Nawabzada Shazain Bugti said that the country is taking tough measures to control drug smuggling.Addressing the National Assembly, the minister said that 17 percent of the total seizures of drugs and narcotics worldwide Happens in Pakistan. According to the report, Bugti said that a comprehensive strategy is being prepared to curb drug trafficking. Legislation is also being considered to ensure effective control over the sale and use of narcotics.

He said that several effective measures are being implemented for the rehabilitation of drug addicts. The federal and provincial governments are working jointly to achieve the set goals. The minister highlighted that several treatment centers are functional, and more such are being set up in different provinces of Pakistan. Bugti said that to control the use of drugs among the youth, the present government is working on a legislative framework that will empower enforcement agencies to conduct random drug testing in educational institutions of the country.
