According to the Russian government, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the most senior Russian official to visit Beijing since Moscow sent thousands of its troops to Ukraine in February 2022, held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
“Following the talks, a number of bilateral agreements should be signed,” reported the Russian agency Interfax, without giving further details.
The visit comes after angry reactions from Russia and China over statements made against them at the weekend’s G7 summit on a number of issues, including Ukraine, nuclear weapons and pressures economic.
According to data from China Customs, Chinese exports to Russia continued to rise in April, jumping 153.1 percent year on year, after doubling in March.
Interfax said Russian energy supplies to China are expected to increase by 40% this year, and the two countries are also discussing the supply of technological equipment to Russia.
