Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

US working on Ukrainian pilot training details with allies

A senior State Department official told American media there were no significant signs that China was willing to use its influence with Russia to stop the war in Ukraine.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Derek Chollet discussed China and Ukraine with State Department American media Bureau Chief Nike Ching on Tuesday.

He said the United States, along with 50 other coalition partners, was providing Ukraine with the resources it needed to defend it and reclaim territory.

At the same time, he refused to talk about the timing of the upcoming counteroffensive.

“Let the Ukrainian side speak for itself about the timing of the counter-offensive and its goals,” Chollet said.

He also said the United States and NATO allies were working on details for the next training of Ukrainian pilots to work on F-16 fighter jets.

“Our Pentagon colleagues are working closely with defense ministries in Europe and elsewhere to discuss how to proceed with the F-16,” Chollet said. “Everything will start with training, because these planes are not easy to fly. This will require several weeks of training. We are still discussing who will provide these planes. For us, we have not made any decision on this.
