WHO condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine

On Wednesday, the assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) passed a resolution condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, including attacks on medical facilities.

The resolution was adopted by 80 votes to 9.

52 countries abstained from voting; 36 – did not participate in the work of the assembly.

The resolution presented at the WHO annual meeting called for an assessment of the impact of Russian aggression on the Ukrainian health system.

Russia presented a counter-resolution acknowledging the health emergency in Ukraine but not mentioning Russia’s role in the war against Ukraine.

The WHO rejected the Russian draft resolution.

British Representative Simon Manley accused Moscow of spreading misinformation at the assembly.

At the same time, the representative of the Russian Federation confirmed the distribution of brochures by the Russian delegation, in which Ukrainian troops are accused of attacks on medical facilities in the territories under their control.

Ukraine’s representative said the vote was a “sign of hope” for its citizens in need of medical care and an important step in the continued work of the WHO in the country.
