In the Belarusian capital, informs BELTA the heads of the ministries of defense of the Union state signed documents that determine the procedure for keeping Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, and also discussed the military-political situation and the problems of military-technical cooperation between defense departments.
Minsk and Moscow, Khrenin stressed, have taken steps to strengthen the combat potential of the regional grouping of troops. In particular, we are talking about equipping new modern weapons, such as the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system and the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system.
The Belarusian minister also drew attention to the re-equipment of Su-25 aircraft with the possibility of using aviation weapons in nuclear equipment. Belarusian servicemen were trained on Russian training grounds and acquired practical skills in their operation.
“Furthermore, in the conditions of non-compliance with the security guarantees given to Belarus in the Budapest Memorandum of December 5, 1994, as well as the relentless bellicose rhetoric, backed by concrete actions against our countries by the collective West, on behalf of the heads of our states, work was organized to deploy Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus,” Khrenin said.
In his opinion, this will become an effective response to the aggressive policy of countries hostile to Belarus and Russia and may make their leaders think about the inadmissibility of a further escalation of the situation in the region.
“The implemented and planned activities once again underline the strategic format of the existing interaction between our departments. In the future, Belarus firmly aims to strengthen and develop close cooperation in the interest of ensuring the Union state security,” the head of the military department concluded.
