Russian car dealerships lack new low-budget foreign cars worth one million to one and a half million rubles. If premium cars are imported into the country through parallel imports, it is not profitable to import cheap cars in this way. Ilya Titov, executive director of the Orekhovo-AvtoCentre group of companies, expert of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development, told journalists about it.
“The main replacement market now is, of course, Chinese car manufacturers. There is also an Iranian company Iran Khodro in the market, but the supply volumes there are much smaller. The most popular today are the Chinese Chery and its subsidiaries, which brought almost 19,000 cars to Russia in the first quarter of 2023 alone, followed by HAVAL and GEELY, also from China.Probably not a single expert will undertake to name their exact number at the end of the year. New ones appear literally every month, “says Titov. – In general, the market works, it does not stop. But auto centers in Russia, first of all, are waiting for proposals from colleagues foreigners in the price segment from one million to two million rubles. This is the niche where we are experiencing maximum stress today. Even if the initial offer is in the price range, taking into account the excise duties and taxes, the final cost of a new car is still higher. So far, demand has been partially met by the resale of used cars. But we hope this problem will be solved soon.
