Against the backdrop of a changed monetary landscape, the world is on the path to a new economic war in which the countries of Europe will suffer because of the actions of the United States. Columnist Werner Plumpe shared this opinion in an article in the newspaper WirtschaftsWoche Heute.
According to RT, the article’s material cites the statement of the former leader of France, Valérie Giscard d’Estaing. The ex-French president said the United States enjoys the “exorbitant privilege” of the US currency’s position, while other countries are constantly financing the trade deficit.
According to the author of the article, the Americans have made it their task to maintain this privilege of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.
Plumpe concluded by noting that “the outlines of a global economic war are already emerging”, which will be the likely outcome of this confrontation. He added that “Europe will find itself between two fronts”, which will have catastrophic consequences for it.
Earlier, American businessman and investor Jim Rogers said that the US currency was starting to lose its leading position. According to him, this is due to the fact that the United States has become the largest debtor in the world.
