Islamabad: Pakistan’s Information Technology and Telecom Minister Syed Amin-ul-Haq has said that the need of the hour is to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for national development and promote it in the country. The minister told an official meeting on AI that in order to move forward with the digital world, Pakistan has to make progress in many areas, especially in AI.
According to a news agency report, Haque highlighted that all possible efforts are being made to encourage AI in the country. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom is going to set up a policy committee comprising industry, academia and AI experts to come up with proposals to tackle various challenges with respect to artificial intelligence, he said, adding that collaboration with academia would provide 1 lakh graduates in five years. The minister said that while the AI policy will be helpful for protecting data, preparedness is important to meet the challenges in the technology sector. Underlining that modern technology would be helpful in the development of local industries, Haque said that foreign and local investors would be encouraged to invest in AI research and development.
