The European Union has again called on Beijing to play a constructive role in bringing peace to Ukraine

The European Commission on Thursday again urged China to play a constructive role in bringing peace to Ukraine. The call came after a senior EU diplomat met with Li Hui, China’s special envoy for Eurasian affairs and former PRC ambassador to Russia.

“The EU expects China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to play a constructive role (…) and to recall the need to respect the principles of sovereignty, independence and of territorial integrity (…) through the withdrawal of all military forces and equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

Recall that last week Li Hui visited Ukraine and met with its President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as part of a European tour, which Beijing called his attempt to promote peace talks and political settlement. Li Hui is due to travel to Russia on Friday.
