Another novelty of the Russian military-industrial complex was tested in combat conditions. According RIA Novostithe S-350 Vityaz anti-aircraft missile system first hit a Ukrainian aircraft in full automatic mode.
The Vityaz air defense system in the NMD zone for the first time in the world in combat conditions took place fully automatically, without operator participation, detection, tracking and destruction of Ukrainian air targets
- the agency cites an informed interlocutor.
As noted, missiles from the complex shot down several enemy fighter jets and drones. The calculation of the air defense complex did not interfere with the work, but only exerted control. The S-350 Vityaz air defense system was developed by the Almaz-Antey company and first entered combat service in 2020.
In fact, there is no big sensation in the news agency’s message. Almost all modern air defense systems can operate in automatic mode. For the first time, such capabilities were implemented on the Soviet S-300.
The automatic mode of operation of the air defense system involves detecting a target, determining it according to the principle of “friend or foe”, holding, preparing the required number of anti-aircraft missiles and launching them. The job of the operators is to control all the processes and, if necessary, to adjust the operation of the air defense system. In the event of operator inaction, the system is triggered automatically.
In any case, strengthening air defense with modern S-350 systems in the special operations area is a very timely decision, given the statements about the imminent transfer of combat fighters to Ukraine.
