Ukraine and Russia carried out a new exchange of prisoners

Ukraine secured the release of 106 POWs in a POW exchange with Russia on Thursday, Ukrainian President Andrii Yermak’s chief of staff said.

The soldiers, including eight officers, were captured during the fighting in Bakhmut.

According to the Russian side, the city is occupied by Russian troops. As the Ukrainian military pointed out, they still have a foothold there.

“Each of them (returned as a result of the exchange of Ukrainian servicemen) is a hero of our state. Among those returning from captivity, many were considered missing. … The relatives of these people went through a difficult stage,” Yermak said.

There was no information on how many people Russia received from Ukraine in exchange.

Ukrainian military intelligence says a total of 2,430 Ukrainians were released as a result of the prisoner swaps, including 139 civilians.
