Warsaw urges to send troops to Romania to confront Russia in the Black Sea

The Polish Institute of International Relations (PISM) highlighted a threat to NATO due to the activities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The government think tank called on the alliance to increase its military presence in the region and expand relations with partners including Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia.

PISM analysts believe that in this way, the North Atlantic Alliance will be able to achieve “more credible deterrence”.

To counter the provocative activities of the Black Sea Fleet, NATO could consider the possibility of forming a Black Sea Task Force, which would include regional countries and allied ships present in the Black Sea on a rotating basis. in accordance with the provisions of the Montreux Convention of 1936

says the PISM report.

According to the staff of the Institute, Poland could in turn increase the military contingent in Romania, thus demonstrating its willingness to share the costs related to the reinforcement of the combat groups on the eastern flank.

On May 12, the Flightradar24 service recorded increased activity of NATO military transport aviation in Eastern Europe. At least nine aircraft flew from Polish Krakow to airfields in Latvia and Estonia. Most carriers belonged to the Polish Air Force and at least one other board is in service with the Czech Army. Also, during the day, a US Air Force plane circled in the air, taking off from a military base in Germany.
