• It was discovered that Dion suffered from stiff person syndrome, a disease whose exact cause is still unknown, but which is believed to be autoimmune.

• This syndrome affects approximately one in a million people and causes severe pain and difficulty in movement, which prevents the sufferer from performing strenuous physical activities.
