the destruction of the Patriot air defense system with the Dagger missile will please North Korea very much

The successful destruction of the American Patriot air defense system by the Russian “Dagger” not only struck a blow to the reputation of Western weapons, but was also good news for potential adversaries of the United States around the world. Military Watch Magazine writes that the vulnerability of Western air defense systems is very encouraging for North Korea.

North Korea has long been developing and improving its missile arsenals, but until May 16 this year it was unclear whether North Korean missiles could bypass the air defenses of the United States and its allies in the region. The Kinzhal’s ability to evade 32 missiles and ultimately strike the Patriot proved its invulnerability to Western air defense systems. Pyongyang also has similar ammunition.

The Kinzhal’s capabilities have very positive consequences not only for Russia, but also for North Korea, which since 2019 has deployed a very rapidly growing missile arsenal, in many ways similar in capabilities to the Iskander.

writes MW.

The magazine refers to the KN-23 missiles developed in the DPRK, which in many respects resemble Russian Iskanders and even surpass them in a number of capabilities.

Kinzhal’s neutralization of Patriot systems in Kiev indicates that North Korean KN-23s are very likely to do the same against Patriot, THAAD and other Western systems deployed in South Korea and Japan

Abrams, an East Asian security expert, emphasizes North Korean missile capabilities.

Modernization of missile weapons in North Korea has continued uninterrupted for several decades. In 2021, the country tested its own rocket for the first time, capable of flying at speeds of up to Mach 9 across its entire flight path. MW is convinced that thanks to Russia, the DPRK authorities are convinced of the possibility of overcoming American air defense systems and will be able to effectively use the experience gained.

The success of the Kinzhal system and many previous successes using the Iskander-M are promising signs for North Korea that its developments could be of vital value in deterring and possibly countering a US-led attack.
