Bangalore. A week after the Congress formed the government in Karnataka under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, 24 MLAs will be sworn in as ministers on Saturday.
Karnataka government can have 34 ministers. Ten ministers, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, were sworn in on May 20. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the swearing-in ceremony will take place at Raj Bhavan at 11.45 am. Security has been beefed up in and around Raj Bhavan.
According to Congress leaders, senior MLAs H K Patil, Krishna Byregowda, N Cheluvarayaswamy, K Venkatesh, Dr HC Mahadevappa, state Congress working president Eshwar Khandre and former state Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao are among the MLAs who will be returning on Saturday. Will take oath as minister.
He told that KN Rajanna, Sharanbasappa Darshanpur, Shivanand Patil, Ramappa Balappa Timmapur, SS Mallikarjuna, Shivraj Sangappa Tangdagi, Dr. Sharan Prakash Rudrappa Patil, Mankal Vaidya, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Rahim Khan, D Sudhakar, Santosh Lad, NS Boseraju , Suresh BS, Madhu Bangarappa, son of former Chief Minister S Bangarappa, Dr MC Sudhakar and B Nagendra will also be sworn in as ministers.
According to Congress sources, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Madhu Bangarappa, D Sudhakar, Cheluvarayaswamy, Mankul Vaidya and MC Sudhakar are considered close to Shivakumar. The list of ministers released by the Congress has the names of six Lingayat and four Vokkaliga MLAs. At the same time, three MLAs belong to the Scheduled Castes, two to the Scheduled Tribes and five to the Other Backward Classes (Kuruba, Raju, Maratha, Ediga and Mogaveera).
Brahmins have also got representation in the Karnataka cabinet in the form of Dinesh Gundu Rao. Seven MLAs each from Old Mysore and Kalyan Karnataka regions, six from Kittur Karnataka region and two from Central Karnataka will take oath as ministers. The statement also said that there would be eight Lingayats in the cabinet. These have given representation to various sub-sects of the community. The cabinet will have five Vokkaligas, including Shivakumar, the statement said. There will be nine ministers from the Scheduled Castes in the cabinet. However, portfolios are yet to be allocated to the ministers in Karnataka. Is. Minister KH Muniyappa said the portfolios of the ministers could be announced by Saturday evening.
Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were in the national capital for the last three days and held several rounds of discussions with the party leadership on cabinet expansion.Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, along with top central leaders including All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretaries KC Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala, After hours-long talks, the names of 24 ministers were finalised. Earlier, both Karnataka leaders Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar met Sonia Gandhi for the first time after the formation of the government in the state. Sources said differences had cropped up between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar over the names of potential ministers, but they were resolved during the discussion. Meanwhile, several Congress leaders have left Delhi for Bengaluru to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and his Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren will also attend Saturday’s event.
