Greece has joined Hungary on the issue of the 11th sanctions package against Russia – the two countries do not yet support the EU initiative. According to Politico, citing five diplomatic sources, Budapest has managed to find an unexpected ally.
Greece, after Hungary, demanded the exclusion of its companies from the Ukrainian list of “war sponsors”.
“Greek companies are accused of being international war sponsors, despite not violating restrictive measures against Russia,” an EU diplomat quoted the publication as saying.
Now, Budapest and Athens prevent the association from forming a unified position on new restrictive measures against Russia.
“Hungary and Greece are using the sanctions package as political leverage to remove their companies from Ukraine’s list,” Politico reported.
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has already promised to settle differences and negotiate with the Ukrainian side on the list of “war sponsors”.
