Banihal / Jammu. A bear entered the school premises in Banihal town of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning before the students could reach school, prompting a joint rescue operation by the police and wildlife department. The officers provided this information.
The students were allowed to enter the school premises about an hour after the scheduled time as the bear fled into the dense forest of the area, officials said. Panic gripped the area around 9 am when some locals saw the black bear entering the premises of the Government Higher Secondary School, he said.
On receiving information, police and wildlife protection teams rushed to the spot to capture the bear, but it could not be traced, officials said. School Principal Abdul Rashid Giri said that the students were allowed to attend their classes after a delay of about an hour due to the presence of the wild bear. Locals said that traffic in and around the city, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, has been disrupted. The presence of bears is being seen in the areas for the last one week.
