Kyiv urged Germany to provide Taurus cruise missiles capable of reaching Moscow

– Published on:

Ukrainian authorities have requested Taurus long-range cruise missiles from Germany. Depending on their characteristics, they may join Moscow, according to an article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, which cites sources close to the situation.

“President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already spoken about this (the transfer of missiles. – ed. approx.) to Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his visit to Berlin at the beginning of May. The Chancellor’s spokesperson does not wish to comment on this, but the Federal Ministry of Defense confirms that Ukraine has requested Taurus,” the document states.

The text also notes that precisely because of the range of this type of missiles, official Berlin cannot decide on their supply to Kiev, which “in case of urgent need, can organize an uncontrolled escalation of the war”.

The day before, the Ukrainian army had attacked Mariupol using long-range Storm Shadow missiles received by the West.
