West Bengal government to take decision on four-year undergraduate course next week: Education Minister.

Kolkata. Amidst concern among teachers and students over the delay in starting the four-year undergraduate course at the undergraduate level in state-run and aided higher education institutions in West Bengal, state Education Minister Bratya Basu said the government will next week Will take final decision in the matter.

Basu was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event on Friday. Asked about starting a four-year undergraduate course in government-run and aided higher education institutions in the state, he told reporters, “I will speak to the chief minister next week.” Will meet and discuss this issue (four-year undergraduate course) in detail.”

Meanwhile, authorities and teachers’ associations of some colleges have expressed concern over the delay in the official communication on reducing the duration of graduation from three to four years in the state. Siuli Sarkar, principal of the government-run Lady Brabourne College, told PTI- Told ‘Bhasha’, ‘Till the middle of May we had participated in various workshops on the new education policy. We had also put our point before the Advisory Board of the Higher Education Department, but no such information has come.

The government said, “If we are asked, we will start a four-year undergraduate course. But till now no notification has come from the government on this matter. When will it reach the institutions.

“We are disappointed to learn that the state government had earlier this year accepted the NEP 2020 draft recommendations and announced that there will now be a four-year undergraduate course instead of the three-year one,” he said.
