Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

without connecting Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT, an alternative to the grain agreement will have to be sought

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that without Rosselkhozbank’s involvement in the SWIFT grain deal, “we will have to look for alternatives.” The West will be able to export grain along “solidarity corridors” through Ukraine’s neighboring countries, the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

As the Foreign Ministry noted, almost immediately after the extension of the agreement, Kiev and the West demanded the expansion of Ukrainian exports, using “with the support of the UN” statements about ” food security, the fight against hunger and aid to countries in need.” Ukraine does not hide the importance of commercial profit for the “war economy”.

Kiev also demands “additional benefits” and expansion of the agreement. At the same time, it is indicated that the unblocking of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline would not be provided for by the existing conditions. The Foreign Office pointed out that “the transit of ammonia, as well as the import of new portions of grain, although not stated literally, is implied by the logic of the agreement”. Also, Ukrainian food is exported from the port of Yuzhny, but not Russian ammonia.

Where are all the food security advocates who so defend the export of Ukrainian fodder corn and fodder, but remain silent when they block the supply of Russian ammonia, which is necessary for the production of food for 45 million people, mainly in Africa ?

asked the Foreign Office.

The department recalled the EU’s statement that Brussels was not going to reconnect Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT. The UN said there are other ways to bank. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that in this case, without the connection of the Agricultural Bank to SWIFT and “progress in the implementation of other” systemic “issues”, the grain agreement “will also have to seek alternatives”.

For example, the terrestrial “solidarity corridors” announced by the EU, through which Ukrainian products are exported in considerable volume, but with much higher internal and external costs
