Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Erdogan in the third term.. the most important files and challenges

Western reports consider that with a third term, Erdogan will have a stronger hand locally and internationally, and the election results will have repercussions that go far beyond Ankara, as Turkey sits at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and plays a major role in NATO.

Turkey is battling high inflation and the cost of living crisis, which is a source of opposition criticism of Erdogan’s “unconventional” economic policies.

Turkish political analysts and observers believe, in an interview with “Sky News Arabia”, that a number of issues will precisely determine the nature of the next stage in the country, the main one being economic conditions, the completion of reconciliation in which serious steps have been taken, while seeking to strengthen internal political stability. Discuss international issues with the European Union and NATO.

During his victory speech, the Turkish President stressed that the next step will be “to build Turkey’s centenary”, reiterating his promises to the Turkish people to defeat inflation and build a productive economy.

Erdogan’s domestic policy

Soner Cagaptay, director of the Turkey research program at the Washington Institute for Policy, told Sky News Arabia that focusing on domestic politics would be among Erdogan’s priorities.

Cagaptay added: “I think the opposition will absorb this dynamic, and in the short term they will remain united because although they did not defeat Erdogan this time, they were very close, and they have great chances during the next local elections which will represent a crisis for the current president, and he has a chance to control Istanbul, Ankara and other big cities.

The local election file interested Erdogan in his victory speech.

Türkiye.. and the European Union

Turkish political analyst, Javad Gok, in an interview with “Sky News Arabia”, identified a number of issues that will shape the characteristics of Erdogan’s next term, namely: He will try to improve relations with the European Union, even if there is no trust between the two parties, and Turkey certainly had a major role in the aftermath of the war between Russia and Ukraine. , and in the European arena by mediating the grain deal. Regarding Erdogan’s position on the refugee file, I think Erdogan will respond to pressure to deport them to Syria from Turkey. The economic file is the biggest problem facing Erdogan, and this file has been the subject of criticism, but I expect that he will face a new problem given the difficulty of finding a current solution and fast, just as he did not find radical solutions before the elections.

Erdogan won the second round of presidential elections, after winning 52.16% of the vote, against 47.84% for opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu, according to the Supreme Election Authority.
