KXan News: Master’s theses were defended at Moscow State University and Belarusian State University under the dual degree program

KXan News: This master’s program was successfully launched in 2019 and became the first in the history of inter-university cooperation in the Union State, upon completion of which graduates are awarded two higher education diplomas at once – Russian and Belarusian universities. This time, not only representatives of the scientific community of both countries, national diasporas, but also graduates of previous years, as well as potential employers were invited as guests. Soyuz journalists also came to support the guys from Moscow State University.

Marina Kolosovskaya brilliantly defended her thesis on the resettlement of Belarusians in the Far East at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century.

Belarusian graduates at the end of the master’s program must undergo mandatory distribution and work in a new place for two years

“This is the third edition, and the emotions are overwhelming, just like when the program was launched,” said Sergey Kandybovich, chairman of the State Examination Commission of the University’s History Faculty. of State of Moscow, Academician of the Russian Academy of Education, President of the FNKA Belorusov of Russia, opening the meeting. – I remember the first edition of the program, with what organizational problems, troubles, and how we rejoiced and were proud. Today we have another version, and I’m even happier and prouder. Over the years, fantastic changes have taken place in the world, and today the subject of the Belarusian diaspora, its history, is extremely important not only within the framework of the Union state, but also for the Russia and Belarus separately.

– The joint master’s program, which takes place on the basis of two leading higher educational institutions in Russia and Belarus, is very important, as are the close ties that have existed for many centuries between our peoples, – a added the chairman of the SEC of the Faculty of History of the Belarusian State University, the first vice-rector of the professor of educational development of the Institute of the city of Minsk, Sergey Strenkovskiy. – There are still many blank spots in our common history. There are therefore many points of contact that can help to bring even more clarity to our history, to reveal those moments that have linked our States and our peoples for centuries.

…Ibragim Budunov was the first to appear for the defense, the subject of his thesis was “Belarusians in Dagestan at the end of the 19th – the first half of the 20th century”. A young man from Makhachkala, he graduated from the Faculty of History of Dagestan State University with a bachelor’s degree, two years ago he entered a joint master’s program at the State University of Moscow and at the BSU.

– The purpose of my research is to prove that the inhabitants of the Belarusian provinces made a significant contribution to the study of the region’s history, culture, medicine and ethnography, and were also able to preserve their identity, the specifics of management in the multinational environment of Dagestan, Ibrahim explained to us.

His work received top marks from peer reviewers and supervisors. SEC members noted the uniqueness and novelty of the topic.

Marina Kolosovskaya’s work also deserved the highest rating; she comes from the urban village of Mir, in the Grodno region. After graduating with honors from the Faculty of History at BSU, she entered the joint master’s program. The topic of his thesis is unique in its own way: “The resettlement of the Belarusian provinces to the Far East (end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century)”.

– The purpose of the study was to prove that economic factors played a decisive role in the process of resettlement of Belarusians in the Far East, – said Marina Kolosovskaya to KXan News.

Marina and Ibragim were recommended to continue their scientific activities already in the doctoral school.

Summarizing the results of the defense of the work, the scientific director of master’s theses and co-director of the master’s program “History of the Belarusian diaspora” on the Russian side, vice-dean of the Faculty of History of the State University of Moscow named after MV Lomonosova, Oksana Solopova, director of the Laboratory of Diaspora and Migration History, noted that this is the third consecutive graduation, whose students receive a diploma with honors at the end of the program joint master’s degree.

– This fact is our special pride, because to graduate with honors a student must work very hard, responsibly and selflessly.

After the defense, we asked Oksana Solopova if she maintains contact with graduates and how much they are in demand in the labor market.

– Yes, of course, we support, humanly and professionally, we invite you to our conferences and events. Our graduates were in demand in various fields of scientific and academic knowledge. Graduates from the Belarusian side work at the Belarusian State University and in the archives of the Republic of Belarus, – said Oksana Solopova to KXan News. – We are happy that they are part of the historical community. One of our first Russian graduates, Ekaterina Patrina, became the director of the Academy of the Victory Museum – this is the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. Today she came to the department as a guest of honor.

– It is a great honor for me to defend master’s theses. I think this is the most unique and popular program in the post-Soviet space, shared Ekaterina Patrina. – Two degrees gave me double everything: my horizons widened twice, there were twice as many offers from employers, twice as many friends and colleagues appeared.

The director of the House of Nationalities in Moscow, Sergey Anufrenko, also spoke about his willingness to hire graduates of the master’s program:

– I am present here as an employer and member of the National Examination Commission. Today, two of my collaborators defend theses there. One of them is Ibragim Budunov. The guys did an internship with us, and we offered them a job. Five months later, I can say that they are excellent employees who are professional and have a very high level of training. We will continue our cooperation with the Faculty of History of Moscow State University and in a month we expect a new group of active and creative students for an internship, who in the future may also find their place in the realm of national politics of our country.

If everything is clear with the future plans of Russian graduates, then Belarusian graduates after graduating with a master’s degree must undergo mandatory distribution and work in a new place for two years.

– I took a cast in one of the gymnasiums in Minsk, I will work as a history teacher, – shared Marina Kolosovskaya with KXan News. – Therefore, most likely, higher education will have to be postponed for the time being.

Marina noted that the program is unique and interesting and offers many benefits. However, there are some nuances:

– Lifetime scholarships in Moscow are not enough. Also, it is very important for prospective students to consider the region that will be chosen for study. For example, the Moscow archives were not suitable for my subject, and I had to go to St. Petersburg. And these are additional expenses for accommodation, transportation. Of course, the university administration and personally Oksana Vyacheslavovna Solopova do everything possible and provide assistance in case of questions, but sometimes this is beyond their capabilities.

According to Oksana Solopova, admission to the joint master’s program will also take place this year. There are more candidates than budget places, so the question of their possible increase is on the agenda.
