External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to meet Afghan Sikh refugees, students from Ukraine.

New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s two-day Apna Abhiyan from Thursday as part of a month-long campaign by the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to take the achievements of the government to the public on the completion of nine years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. The BJP’s Delhi unit said in a statement that Jaishankar would also meet Sikh refugees who came to India after the Taliban took over Afghanistan. The union minister along with West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma was affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the statement said. Will meet a family in Tilak Vihar.

According to the statement, Jaishankar will meet students at Basai Darapur, who were forced to leave their studies and return home due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The External Affairs Minister will meet Guru Arjun at Mahavir Nagar in west Delhi at 3 pm, it said. Dev will visit the Gurdwara, where he will meet Afghan Sikh refugees.

The BJP top leadership has entrusted the external affairs minister with former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani to oversee the campaign in seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi. A senior party functionary said the external affairs minister would visit West Delhi and New Delhi on June 8-9. Apart from meeting prominent persons in different areas of parliamentary constituencies, he will interact with people associated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

According to the statement, Jaishankar will also meet noted photographer and Padma Shri awardee Naresh Bedi and Lt Gen SK Gulati (retd). Party leaders said that in the next phase of the program, on June 15 and 17, Jaishankar would participate in various programs in South Delhi and North-West Delhi Lok Sabha constituencies.
