Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military said 3 civilians were killed in an attack by Russian drones on the Black Sea city of Odessa in the early hours of Saturday morning after the wreckage of a drone that fell on a residential building caused a fire.
Natalya Homenyuk, spokeswoman for the Ukrainian army’s southern command, said the air defenses of the Odessa region shot down 8 drones and two missiles in the Russian attack.
The attack is the latest in a wave of overnight airstrikes targeting Ukrainian cities in recent weeks.
“Following the downing operations, the wreckage of one of the drones fell on an apartment at a great height, causing a fire,” the military official said in a statement.
Emergency services said 27 people, including children, were injured, but the fire was quickly brought under control and 12 people were rescued from the building.
8 ballistic missiles and 35 drones
Ukrainian authorities said Russia launched an attack with drones, Iskander-type ballistic and cruise missiles, noting that the Odessa and Kharkiv regions were under attack.
He said that a total of 8 missiles of various types and 35 drones were launched at critical infrastructure and military facilities from the north and south directions.
He added that the air defense forces and the means of the Ukrainian Air Force in the areas of responsibility of the air command “east”, “central” and “south”, in cooperation with the air defense of other elements of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, destroyed two missiles and 20 attack drones.
She explained that the attack lasted from 11:00 p.m. on June 9 to 5:00 a.m. on June 10, 2023.
Russia intercepts two missiles in Crimea
President of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov said that Russian air defenses intercepted two “Grom-2” type ballistic missiles launched by Ukrainian forces, without causing any injuries or material damage.
“In the morning, air defense forces shot down two Grom-2 ballistic missiles launched by Ukrainian forces,” Aksionov wrote on his Telegram channel, according to Russia Today, citing Russian news agency TASS.
He stressed that the attack did not cause casualties or injuries, nor caused material damage, and called on residents to remain calm and to seek information only from official sources.
The last time Crimea was attacked by Grom-2 missiles was on May 6.
