The United Arab Emirates leads the region in proficiency in business skills

The Global Skills Report 2023 findings are based on data from 124 million learners in more than 100 countries who have used Coursera to learn a new skill in the past year.

The report assesses three of the most essential skills for jobs in the age of the digital economy: business skills, technology and data science. The report lays out specific classifications for countries based on skill prevalence percentages among their human cadres, with 76% and above representing the “core” skill category and 51% to 75% representing the “competitive” category. 25% to 50% for the “startups” category; And 25% or less for the “late” category.

According to the report, learners in the United Arab Emirates achieved a high rate of mastery of business skills (99%), with a high tendency to master communication skills (ranked first in the world), leadership skills and leadership skills. management and human resource skills (ranked second in the world in both).

With a high score for proficiency in leadership-related skills, these skills continue to pique the interest of learners in the UAE.

Compared to learners from other countries, learners from the United Arab Emirates are more likely to invest in leadership skills such as people development, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and management development. Focusing on people and leadership skills can be key to overcoming the disruption caused by the rapid adoption of AI technologies.

The report refers to data science as a vital area for the growth and improvement of learners’ skills in the UAE with a rate of (24%), despite the fact that they recorded the highest rate of skills in data visualization with a rate of (64%). Therefore, there is a need to continue investing and developing skills in this area to take advantage of available opportunities by disseminating advanced technologies in various sectors.

The Global Skills Report 2023 indicated that the real strength of learners in the UAE lies in mastering business skills. With the exception of accounting (35%), learners display very high proficiency in almost all skill areas. The country’s strong growth trajectory in the field of technology is evident in the high scores obtained by learners in skills such as security engineering (90%), software engineering (88%) and computer networks (97%).

The report ranks the UAE 32nd in the world for total skill proficiency. The Coursera platform includes over 800,000 learners in the UAE, representing 7.98% of the country’s working-age population. The average age of learners is 35, 42% of them are women and 45% receive their education via mobile devices.

The enrollment rate of UAE learners for professional certificates from the platform has increased by 22%, with more of them seeking certificates that qualify them for digital jobs. This trend is in line with the country’s continued investment in human capital as part of the “50 Principles”, which aim to attract talent, retain specialists and continue to develop skills to support development and prosperity. from the country.

Report Highlights The 2023 Global Skills Report shows that the Middle East and North Africa region, with over 7.2 million learners on Coursera, is the most proficient in business skills (52% ), with opportunities for better investment in developing technology skills (28% and data science skills (25%).

According to the report, the United Arab Emirates leads the region in business skills proficiency rates (99%), followed by Oman (97%), Bahrain (90%), Saudi Arabia (81 %) and Qatar (78%). Technology skills formed a gap in the region, with Saudi learners achieving the highest percentage of learners in this skill area in the region (68%).

According to the report, compared to learners from other countries and regions, learners in the MENA region are more likely to invest in marketing skills such as social media (1.44x) and advertising (1.43x) , as well as leadership skills such as data analysis. people (1.66x), impairment), human learning (1.6x) and influence (1.42x).

They are also more likely to invest in AI-related data science skills such as deep learning (1.21x), artificial neural networks (1.2x), computer vision (1 .17x) and technological skills such as computer graphics techniques (1.38x) and graphic design (1.31x. double) and interactive design (1.15 times lower).
