Daglo, in a press interview, talks about Wagner and the obstacle of negotiations

Daglo said, in an exclusive interview with the Italian agency Nova: “We have mentioned several times and we will repeat it unequivocally: there is no connection between the Rapid Support Forces and Wagner.”

He added: “Wagner was brought to Sudan a long time ago by (former Sudanese President) Omar al-Bashir to train the army…and at that time the Rapid Support Forces were forced to participate in this training.

He continued: “Relations were by no means friendly. However, since 2019, Rapid Support has nothing to do with Wagner.”

And he added: “We do not believe that foreign powers should be involved in the internal affairs of Sudan.

Hamidti underlined: “But unfortunately, the leadership of the Sudanese army thinks differently, because the newly discovered internal Wagner documents showed what many people in Sudan have known for years: there is still a close relationship between Wagner and the Sudanese Armed Forces”.

Regarding the causes of the conflict that erupted on April 15 and which has so far caused the death of more than 866 people, Daglo says: “First of all, the extremist Islamists within the army command have full control over the decision. These individuals are remnants of the old regime, whose presence has increased in several institutions since 2019.

And to add: “In addition, the alliance between the remnants of the defunct regime and the extremist Islamic groups constitutes a great threat to the stability of Sudan. These groups aim to establish an Islamic state similar to, if not identical to, ISIL. himself a defender of Sudan, he not only protects not only his own people, but also humanity and the wider African region from the potential consequences of such extremist ideologies.

Dagalo believes that such a situation prevents the start of serious peace negotiations, adding: “There is another factor that makes peace talks difficult, and that is the presence of certain individuals within the army, such as the commander himself, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who prioritizes *the lust for power* over the pursuit of peace. It is therefore necessary to engage in dialogue and negotiations that give priority to the interests and aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Then the commander of the Rapid Support Forces said that he highly appreciated the mediating role played by the United States and Saudi Arabia in convening the peace talks in Jeddah, noting that the success of these peace initiatives depended on the willingness and commitment of the other party. to engage in it.

He continued, “We are ready and willing to enter into further negotiations, and we will respect any ceasefire we reach… Let’s hope the war ends as soon as possible.”
