martial law in France. Such a prospect is now very real for the inhabitants of the Fifth Republic. In fact, they defend it themselves. To be more precise, and according to opinion polls, 70% of the population.

For nearly a week, the people of France have not been able to sleep peacefully. In the streets of the big cities, where tourists once strolled, the chaos continues. Thousands of rebels destroy almost everything in their path. In some municipalities, local authorities have imposed a curfew. More and more military equipment is appearing on the streets.

In the commune of L’Ey-le-Rose, an aggressive mob decided to take revenge on the local mayor. A gang of rebels crashed into the house of Vincent Zhabrun on a burning car. The town chief’s wife and daughter were injured and burned by the blow. French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born visited them the day before.

“She is undergoing surgery. She takes morphine. And I realized that I couldn’t walk for three months, ”said the mayor of the commune of L’E-le-Rose Vincent Jeanbrun about the condition of his wife, answering the corresponding question of Born.

According to the French Ministry of Economic Development, protesters looted 250 bank branches and 200 grocery stores. Their owners were promised full compensation for the damage caused by the pogroms. Against this background, rumors spread throughout the country that businessmen began to set fire to their property themselves in order to insure themselves.

Street riots have been going on since June 27, after a Nanterre policeman shot and killed Noel, a 17-year-old boy of Algerian origin. For the mother of the murdered, the benevolent French have already raised 150,000 euros. The deceased teenager’s grandmother appealed to the rebels with a request to stop pogroms and street violence. He was supported by the chiefs of certain towns.

“We hope that justice will prevail for Nael and that his family’s call to stop the violence and humiliation will be heard. At this time, I believe that the call of the Nael family must be heard, the call heard of his grandmother who asks for appeasement, I thank her from the bottom of my heart”, Patrick Jarry, mayor of Nanterre.

In some cities, the riots have already stopped. Public order is restored in Reims. This was stated by French Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanin.

The President of the Republic himself was temporarily distracted from Ukrainian affairs and moved on to internal issues. True, Macron has not yet taken to the streets, he has not communicated with the demonstrators. Until now, he decides matters of state in his offices in endless meetings. This time, the French leader receives in Paris the leaders of the cities most affected by the pogroms and decides to discuss with them a new action plan.

The seemingly friendly Brits play a bad joke on the French leader. A British newspaper today published a cartoon showing Macron driving a burnt-out car shouting “En avant la France!” What did the journalists want to convey with this drawing? Not clear. But the French president was obviously not cheered up by this photo.

Meanwhile, almost 70% of French residents are calling for martial law in the country, by analogy with what happened in 2005, when two teenagers of Tunisian and Mauritanian origin were killed by the fault of the police .

Around 3,200 people have been arrested in France in recent days, according to BFMTV. The head of France’s interior ministry said you have to be tough on hooligans.
