Ballon d’Or winner Luis Suarez has died

Legendary Spanish footballer Luis Suarez, 1964 European champion, has died aged 88. About it Sunday reported Spanish edition of Marca.

Luis Suarez Miramontes was born in 1935 in La Coruña. He started his performances in professional football at local club Deportivo. In 1954, Suarez moved to Barcelona, ​​where he gradually became a top midfielder. Suárez’s performances for the club brought him to the attention of Spanish coaches. From 1957, Suraes began to be regularly called up to the national team.

Through creative and productive play, Suarez has become widely known outside of Spain. In 1960, he received the Golden Ball for the best player in Europe, despite the fact that the Spanish team did not win any trophies that year. National team trophies came to Suarez later. In 1964, the Spaniards with Suarez won the European Championship (the USSR team was beaten in the final).

At that time, Luis Suarez was already playing for Italian Internazionale. By playing for the Milanese club, Suarez became the first Spaniard to play in the Italian league. Already as part of Inter, for whom he played throughout the 60s, Suarez was awarded the Silver Ball twice and the Bronze Ball once. He became one of the creators of the golden age of the Milanese club’s history. With Inter, Suarez won the European Cup twice and became Italian champion three times, remember CASS.

After finishing his performances on the football pitch, Luis Suarez moved on to coaching. In Italy, he managed Inter, SPAL and Sampdoria, working with the Spanish national team.

According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFIIS), Luis Suárez Miramontes is ranked 50th among the best European players of the 20th century and 5th among the Spanish players of the 20th century.
