Washington D.C., USA – The Russian embassy in the United States has accused the United States of committing war crimes on Ukrainian soil, in response to the announcement by the White House’s National Security Council (NSC) coordinator for strategic communications, John Kirby, regarding the supply of cluster munitions to Ukraine. The embassy, in a message posted on its Telegram channel, stated that Kirby’s remarks “de facto admitted” to the United States’ involvement in war crimes during the Ukraine conflict.
Highlighting Kirby’s statement on the potential civilian casualties caused by American cluster munitions, the Russian embassy pointed out that he had openly acknowledged the future harm caused by these weapons. Moreover, the embassy highlighted Kirby’s comparison of the United States’ actions to those of Russia, suggesting that he viewed them as inflicting “less harm.”
The Russian diplomats interpreted the decision to supply cluster munitions to Ukraine as an indication that the US administration believes the situation cannot worsen any further. They concluded that this logic underscores the admission of the United States’ involvement in war crimes.
Andrey Koshkin, an expert from the Association of Military Political Scientists, offered his perspective on the US decision to supply cluster bombs to Ukraine. In an earlier commentary, he suggested that this move may be a response to the Ukrainian army’s failure in the counteroffensive.
As tensions persist in Ukraine and the conflict continues, accusations and counter-accusations between Russia and the United States further complicate the situation. The supply of cluster munitions raises concerns about the potential impact on civilians and the escalation of violence in the region. The international community closely monitors these developments as diplomatic efforts are underway to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
