New Delhi, India (TEH) – In a passionate and scathing address to the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, the reinstated Member of Parliament, unleashed a torrent of criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP. Drawing parallels between Modi’s leadership and the mythological figure Ravana, Gandhi accused the government of treachery and of igniting flames of discord across the nation, reports AP News.
Gandhi’s speech, marked by eloquence and fervor, was part of the debate on the no-confidence motion against the government. He began his address with a quote from Sufi saint Jalaluddin Rumi and went on to express his heartfelt concerns about the state of the nation.
The Congress leader’s remarks were not without controversy. He likened Modi’s close relationship with Amit Shah and Adani to Ravana’s reliance on Kumbhakarna and Meghnad, stating that Lanka was not burnt by Hanuman but by Ravana’s arrogance. He further accused the BJP of killing India in Manipur, calling them traitors.
“You are sending kerosene all over the country, sent kerosene to Manipur, set it on fire with sparks, and are now doing it in Haryana… You want to set fire to the whole country,” Gandhi declared, prompting BJP MPs to demand an apology.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju interrupted Gandhi, calling his statements serious and demanding an apology. He questioned the Congress party’s own record, having ruled for over seven decades.
Gandhi’s speech also included personal reflections on his Bharat Jodo Yatra, a journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. He shared anecdotes from his interactions with farmers and his visits to riot-affected areas in Manipur. His emotional recounting of the pain and suffering he witnessed resonated with many in the House.
However, his sharp tone and accusations against the government led to tense moments. “You are a traitor, you are not a patriot…. That’s why your Prime Minister is not going to Manipur. They have killed India in Manipur. You are not the protector of Mother India, you are the killer of Mother India,” he said, prompting the Lok Sabha Speaker to intervene.
The speech has ignited debates and discussions across the political spectrum, with supporters lauding Gandhi’s courage and detractors criticizing his choice of words. The impact of his address on the no-confidence motion and the broader political landscape remains to be seen.
