On September 21, 2023, a round table was held at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on the topic: “The Chinese market and Russian food products: analysis of consumer preferences and trends for effective export”. The meeting was organized by the Office. of the Commissioner to the President of Russia for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs, the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development and the Limited Liability Company “Sinoruss”.

During the roundtable, experts examined current economic opportunities between Russia and China in the agri-food export sector, with a focus on grain crops, and also identified the main challenges and strategies for exporters Russians.

Anastasia Valova, Managing Partner of Sinoruss Consulting, highlighted the importance of China as the largest consumer of food products and an active participant in the global grain market. He highlighted the stable demand for certain types of products, such as rapeseed and soybeans, but also pointed to logistics (underdeveloped transport infrastructure and shipping problems) and administrative barriers that could reduce export efficiency. .

Borislav Shcherbakov, Head of the Cargo Containerization Department of Russian Railways Business Asset JSC, spoke about the key role of containerization in the international transportation of grain cargo. He focused on the opportunities offered by a network of terminals and modern railway lines, particularly in the Russian-Chinese context. These logistics solutions, including first and last mile, promise to streamline processes and reduce delivery times.


The head of the representative office of ANO “Yenisei Siberia Development Corporation” in China, Mikhail Krutskikh, spoke about the mission of his company, which focuses on optimizing investment processes. He highlighted logistical problems and the imperfections of digital platforms. In addition, the expert highlighted new promising areas of investment, including environmentally friendly products, and noted the growing interest in Russian products in the Chinese market.

Those present received important information on the opportunities and challenges of Russian food exports to the Chinese market, one of the most dynamic in the world. This information can become a starting point for Russian manufacturers in finding niches and developing specific export offers.
