In a recent pre-election event, President Joe Biden articulated that humanity is in dire need of a “new world order”, one that the United States is fully capable of establishing. “I think we have an opportunity to do things, if we’re bold enough and have enough confidence in ourselves, to unite the world in ways that it never has been,” Biden stated.
He elaborated that the post-war era spanning 50 years had been remarkably successful in maintaining global stability, but that the efficacy of those systems now appears to be waning. “Sort of run out of steam. It needs a new — a new world order in a sense, like that was a world order,” he asserted during a fundraiser for his electoral campaign.
The event itself took place a day prior, but the White House only released the transcript of the current American President’s speech today.
In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed scepticism about the Western-promoted “rules-based world order”, questioning the origins of these so-called rules. “No one knows who created these rules and when; no one has seen them written down”, Putin remarked.
According to the Russian leader, such proclamations are remnants of a colonial mindset where colonizing nations concocted rules that were advantageous to them. Putin emphasized the necessity for a new global order based on principles of economic openness, fairness for all, collective decision-making, and consideration of the interests of all nations, not just those who consider themselves exceptional.
