The State Department called on Congress to approve aid to Ukraine by the end of the year.

The State Department called on Congress to approve a new aid package for Ukraine before the end of the year.

“We have made it clear that we want the funding for Ukraine that we proposed in the President’s supplemental request to be approved,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said. “We want it to be approved by the end of the year.” This remains our goal and our priority.”

Ultimately, Miller said, Congress will have to decide “whether it will support Ukraine and provide the funding needed to counter the Russian invasion as we enter what we expect will be a very difficult winter.”

“We continue to believe that in a decisive vote in Congress, assistance to Ukraine will be approved by an overwhelming majority, and we will continue to work with Congress to achieve this,” the State Department spokesman said.
