Estonian Prime Minister calls Macron’s words a signal to Russia

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, in an interview with Politico, called the words of French President Emmanuel Macron about the possibility of sending troops of Western countries to Ukraine as a signal to Russia that the West does not rule out various options for helping Kiev.

“I think that this is also a signal that we are giving to Russia that we are not ruling out different things… all countries have realized that we need to do everything,” Kallas said.

She also added that various ideas are discussed in the EU behind closed doors, but “they need to be discussed openly.”

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the leaders of Western countries had discussed the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, but consensus had not yet been reached. Shortly after Macron’s statements, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin would not send its military to Ukraine, and Scholz stressed that NATO countries as a whole were not going to do this.

The possible sending of their military by Western countries to Ukraine will increase the risk of a direct clash between NATO and Russia, Konstantin Gavrilov, the head of the Russian delegation at negotiations in Vienna on military security and arms control, previously told RIA Novosti.
