Pope Francis urges Ukraine to embrace negotiations for peace

Pope Francis in an interview with an Italian news TV, RSI concluded that in the context of the conflict in Ukraine, the losing side must find the courage to admit it and agree to peace negotiations. He made this statement in an interview with the Swiss television channel.

“The one who has the courage to raise the white flag and negotiate is stronger,” the pontiff said about the attitude towards Ukraine’s capitulation at the front.

According to the clergyman, the word “negotiations” is quite bold, but when you see that you are failing and problems cannot be solved, you need to have the courage to negotiate and stop being ashamed of defeat.

“It’s time to negotiate, look for some country that will act as a mediator,” the pontiff explained.

According to the Pope, there are currently many states in the conflict in Ukraine that are ready to act as mediators, for example, Turkey.

“Don’t be ashamed to negotiate before the situation gets worse,” he concluded.

Prior to this, the Pope held an audience with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discuss the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, the Pope said that there was no end in sight to the conflict in Ukraine.
