As millions of Muslims around the world prepare for the start of the month of Ramadan, and the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, global leaders have been urged not to be ‘blinded by selfish desires.’
Baitul Futuh Mosque in London, the biggest in Britain, played host to the International Peace Symposium on Saturday evening, which was attended by hundreds of guests who gathered to hear from the worldwide Head and Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.
Speaking about the importance of ending global conflicts, the Caliph called for ceasefires in both Gaza and Ukraine. His Holiness said:
“Political leaders and those who have access to policymakers must take a long-term view of what is in the best interests of mankind, rather than being blinded by selfish desires to assert their superiority over others.”
“I firmly believe there is only one way to end these wars – by ensuring that justice prevails and that whatever settlements are made are based on equity, as opposed to what better serves the interests of external powers.”
His Holiness also dismissed the misconception of the conflict in the Middle East being a ‘religious war’, instead stating that it was a ‘geopolitical and territorial conflict’ with religion providing a solution.
“Islam literally means ‘peace’ and every aspect of its teachings reflects this meaning. … (in) the Holy Quran, Allah the Almighty commands that where a person or nation has been wronged they must never respond disproportionately or stray into realms of seeking revenge.”
“We must all come together, setting aside national, political, and other vested interests for the greater good of humanity and to ensure that we leave behind a prosperous world for our future generations.”
The Caliph led the 1200 guests in silent prayer at the conclusion of the event and stated the need for world leaders to take immediate action. Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“With all my heart, I hope and pray that, before it is too late, the world comes to its senses and brings an end to the brutalities and wars taking place in the world.”
