French international top scorer Kylian Mbappe has officially decided his future with Paris Saint-Germain, by announcing on Friday his departure at the end of the season from the capital club, with which he recently won the local football league title.
Mbappe said in a video he posted on Instagram, “It’s my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend (the contract) and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks.”
The promising star added, “I will play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday” against Toulouse in the penultimate thirty-third round of the French League.
The 25-year-old was hoping to end his adventure with the capital club in a better way by leading him to the Champions League final for the second time in its history, but the journey ended Tuesday in the semi-finals at the hands of German Borussia Dortmund, who won the second leg in Paris 1-0, the same result. The first leg at Signal Iduna Park.
Sunday’s match against Toulouse will be Mbappé’s last appearance among Saint-Germain fans, because the last two matches are Wednesday against Nice (postponed from Stage 32) and Metz outside the Parc des Princes.
Mbappe ends his seven-season journey in the colors of Saint-Germain by winning the French League title with the possibility of winning the local treble after the team of Spanish coach Luis Enrique won the Champions Cup (Super Cup) at the beginning of the season, in addition to qualifying for the cup final, where it will face Lyon on the 25th of this month.
Mbappe confidentially informed Saint-Germain officials last February of his intention to leave when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
The player never said this publicly, nor did he confirm where he would go next, but Spanish Real Madrid seems like his most likely destination.
Saint-Germain will lift the League Cup on Sunday at its home stadium and in front of its fans, after clinching it in the last stage as a result of the defeat of its host Monaco against its host Lyon 2-3, after the capital team stumbled 24 hours earlier against its guest Le Havre 3-3.
“After the defeat by Dortmund,” Mbappe told reporters, “I believe not everything should be consigned to the trash. We still have objectives ahead, with the French Cup final on the horizon.” He emphasized, “Our commitment to hard work remains unwavering. Our focus is on securing victory in the final match, after which we will assess the season, discerning what worked well and what did not.”
